TROSKY KNEE SERIES
HOP MANIPULATION

Coach Trosky will breakdown the complexity of infield play, and specifically, fielding ground balls and the many different variations and simplifying it into 5 Hops, the 5 - last hops. In the knee series, we focus on the 3 Hand Actions and when to use them:

1.) Pick
2.) Press
3.) Receive

Hand versatility equates to consistency. The Trosky Knee Series goes into detail on when do the hands receive, when do they press, and when do they receive.

The Trosky Knee Series also dives into the 5 HOPS,Hop Manipulation and hand actions required for each hop. From the firm roller to the long hop, short in-between hop to the challenging long in-between hop – every action is purposeful, leading to versatility and consistency.

Manipulating the Difficult Hops:

The magic happens when infielders master the manipulation of in-between hops: example converting short in-between hops into short hops, extending long in-between hops and making them long hops, HOP MANIPULATION, work for the 2 inch hop!

Mastering the Progression:

1.) "Receive" Hand Action:

Begin with the "Receive" hand action, fielding a firm "Roller," a ball rolled hard along the ground without any bounces.

2.) "Pick" Hand Action:

Move on to the "Pick" hand action, conquering the "Short-hop," a ball fed underhand right in front of you. Your hand works up underneath the ball to the centerline of your body.

3.) "Press" Hand Action:

Advance to the "Press" hand action, fielding the "Short In-Between Hop." This time, the ball is fed about a foot further out in front of you than the Short-hop. Your hand works forward and underneath the ball, back to the centerline of your body
